Educating Ourselves: The Critical Role of Men in Gender Equity Work

 Oscar Felix

Session Description:
This workshop, directed at men and open to folx of all genders, focuses on strategies to eliminate harmful behaviors, practices, and language that uphold sexism and gender oppression in workplaces, classrooms, and other TRIO program activities.  Participants will be engaged in conversations, introspection, learning, and action that focuses on accountability and supports gender equity.  A key principle of focus in this workshop is that men must take responsibility in creating learning and working environments that allows everyone to succeed, knowing that as men we perpetuate and create hostile environments for non-binary folx and women consciously and subconsciously.  This session will highlight a program that created open and honest conversations about how men enter and hold spaces of power and influence in offices, classrooms, meetings, workgroups, and leadership positions, and will offer insights and resources to begin a much-needed journey of introspection, accountability, awareness and positive action.
